Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey

my infant (8 months) was born in NY but we live in NJ (lived in NJ 4 years). I want to submit for a name change. Do I submit it in NY or in NJ? also, do i need to hurry up and do it before she is 1 year old? or will it be easy to change it even if process slides past when she is 1 year old (e.g. 1 year old and 2 months) as i understand this can take a couple of months

Thank you

You want to change the New York birth certificate. It would seem better to do name change in New York. Sometimes a name change can be done administratively on basis of a mistake as to a first or middle name. If you want to change a last name I would think that would be a different matter. You should make a call to vital statistics in New York State to discuss the name change which you want to learn if the change can be done administratively.
