Hi,
I am working in USA on L1B visa since 2006 and would be completing 5 yrs by 30th of July. Yesterday my company told me that they cannot process L1A for me since i have already completed 4.5 yrs of stay at USA.
Is it true that someone who has already completed 4.5 yrs of stay in USA on L1B cannot apply for L1A (either from USA or from India)? Please confirm.

No they are incorrect. You can change your status from L-1B to L-1A within the U.S. Anytime before the L-1b expires.
