Legal Question in Insurance Law in New Jersey

Am I Responsible?

I lived with a boyfriend for 8 months. He financed an SUV for me to use and I said I would pay for it. We have since broke up and I find I can't afford it anymore. He says I am legally obligated to pay for it since it was a verbal agreement. He on the other hand owes me money which I gave him to help with some financial problems. I told him since he owes me money for helping him, that he can pay the insurance on the vehicle for a few months to pay me back. He refuses and says he can't afford it. I'm told I have no legal leg to stand on because of the verbal agreement, that I will have to keep the truck. Am I also responsible for the insurance since the truck and insurance are in his name?I would really like to give the truck back to him, but if I can't, I think he should pay the insurance or something.

Re: Am I Responsible?

You need to sit down with (and hire and pay) an attorney who has some experience in this area. I suggest you scrape together the money and do so. I am uncomfortable giving you any advice on this public bulletin board. Your situation requires meeting with an attorney.

Please contact me if you are in northern NJ. Good luck to you.
