Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New Jersey

We rented an apartment for 1 year. We signed a lease and paid a $900 deposit. After our year was up we chose to move so we put in our 30 day notice. Our landlord is refusing to return the deposit and we have just found out the apartment we were renting is illegal. Are we entitled to all, or a portion, of our rent back? We live in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Please call me. If you are correct, and the apartment was illegal, you may be entitled to up to six month's rent paid to you from the landlord. And is there any good reason why the landlord will not return your $900 deposit? if not, then you may be entitled to double your money back.

Call me! I would like to assist you with this. Give me a call, make an appointment to come see me, and let's get moving on this for you. I know people worry about how expensive a lawyer is, so I am careful to be as inexpensive as I can for my clients. Before you spend a dime, you will know how much this is likely to be.
