Legal Question in Personal Injury in New Jersey

Defamation of character

A nurse that works in my classroom has submitted a letter in writing to my principal stating that I, as a teacher, made a threatening comment towards the students in my classroom. The statement is inaccurate and a complete twist on my words. This has cost me my job and many merits of reccomendation that I have earned as a good teacher. It is also going to be very difficult for me to find a job anywhere else due to her allegation. Though my case is being handled profesisonally by a representative of my union, is there any way that I could sue her personally for the damage she has caused me not only in my job, but in my personal life as well?

Re: Defamation of character

Yes, it is possible that you could sue her personally.

Whether you are able to or not is going to dependent on the specific facts (ie what was the exact comment(s)) and the measure of your damages.
