Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Can a Lease be Amended

What are my rights as a Tenant when the Landlord wants to change the lease 8 months into a 1 year lease. Can aan amendment be made without my consent, Even though it states in the lease that any changes need to be signed by both landlord and tenant. thank you.

Re: Can a Lease be Amended

No change to a written lease can usually be made without your consent, in writing. You do not indicate when the proposal is to take place, or whether it is allowed under the lease agreement. The terms of the written lease control. If the lease does not provide for what is being proposed, it will have to wait until the renewal comes up. I would need more information on what the proposal is and what the lease says, to more adequately respond to your question.

Re: Can a Lease be Amended

A lease can be amended, but it requires the consent of both parties. A Unilateral modification will not be effective.
