Survivor Benefits

If you are guardian of 4 surviving children - their mother died of cancer - can I get benefits to take care of them regardless of my income.

Survivors benefits may be available to a deceased worker's minor children. see this link:

Survivors benefits are not effected by any other household income.

If the deceased did not work or lacks sufficient quarters of credit (by working and paying the SS tax) there may not be a benefit.

Call your local SS office and inquire.

Also, do not forget the father of the children. If he is deceased or disabled, the children may be eligible under his claim.

If any of the children have a disability that child may be eligible for SSI - Which is effected by other income.
