Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

Driving with a Suspended License

My license and registration were suspended due to an insurance lapse and I was driving home to New Jersey when i was pulled over by an officer in Mahwah on Rt. 17 who was running plates. I received three tickets one for driving without insurance, one for having a suspended license and another for suspended registration. I have a New York License though so I'm not quite sure how I will get charged since I'm out of state. I know the first offense in New Jersey results in a fine of $500 and an additional suspension. I can turn in my plates and registration in New York to lift the suspension(which I intended to do that day) and the officer mentioned something about getting it done within the next 3 days and it being less of an issue(perhaps in court I'm not sure). Should I hire a lawyer for this matter or should I just go to the court.

Re: Driving with a Suspended License

What would help would be your having insurance to lift your suspension which would be helpful in an attorney trying to have your no insurance charge changed to failure to produce insurance card and to deal with your your other traffic summons. You need an attorney.

You are looking at 18 months of DL suspension regardless of where your DL is from. I strongly suggest you get an attorney ASAP.
