Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

I was given a ticket for making an improper U-turn in greenbrook. There is a no u-turn sign 100 feet before an intersection. I made a left turn at the intersection and then made a u-turn on that street within 20 feet of the intersection. Stopped at the stop sign and then took a right, so i was traveling in the opposite direction. IS this a U-turn since I completed a left turn and then abided by a traffic sign on the side road? Interested on your take.....

The no U-turn sign on the street where you were originally traveling does NOT prohibit you from making a U-turn on the street that you turned on to.

Good luck.

I am curious, did the officer indicate on the ticket that there was a sign posted prohibiting U-Turns? There are two aspects to the No U-turn statute 39:4-125, one part of the statute prohibits a U-turn on any street where there is a sign conspicuously posted prohibiting U-turns. The other aspect of the statute prohibits U-turns on any street where your view is obstructed at/or near the grade or crest of such street within a distance of more than 500 feet basically in either direction. I have no idea if this applies, but if the street where you made the U-turn is on a hill and your view was obstructed for more than 500 feet in the opposite direction, that may factor into your argument. The No U-turn sign should only apply to the street that you were initially on. It is a 3 point ticket so I would speak to the prosecutor before you decide to potentially take it to trial. see what they may offer you to resolve it. It is therefore worth going to Court based on the points. please feel free to call with any questions (201)-342-5030, otherwise good luck
