Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Gun Charge
My fiance was illegally searched by police in December of 2008. They had no reason to stop or search him but when they did they found supposedly found a Police issued gun on him (Which is a lie). He was arrested and because he has 3 previous felonys they are trying to give him a mandatory 15yrs to life. We are fighting the case at the present moment and I wanted to know if there is any specific place I could look for useful information on this type of case. He is a good person, worked for a few country clubs and has been getting his life together. Please help if possible.
