Legal Question in Family Law in New York
living in another state
We might be getting a divorce. I think we would ask for joint custody of the kids. My concern is my family is another state. I would like to move back to my home state with my kids. Could that be allowed if we got joint custody.

Yes but your spouse would probably have to sign off on it. It is rare that courts will allow one to move more than 75-100 miles from the other parent without good cause.
