Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

My brother was killed by YPD in 1996. We hired a lawyer to represent us but on 10/2002 he was disbarred. He took off with all documents and legal papers belonging to the case. We were supposed to get a settlement for my brother's death but we have not being able to find out what happened with the settlement or my brother's case. I later found out he was arrested for defrauding his clients. We don't have any dockets or index numbers. i tried searching and going to Yonkers Criminal Court but they won't help me without a docket or index number. What should i do if i want to find out what happened to the case? The case was still "pending" about 1 year ago.

If an action was started against the Yonkers Police Dept, it would have been brought in Westchester Supreme Court. Check it out with the County Clerk.

Give me a call in the early morning and we'll see what is possible. I'll be in the Westchester County courthouse on another matter at 9:30 and can check the file after that.
