promissory notes

Would a promissory note and/or IOU signed by an individual be able to be used in court if perhaps they fail to follow through with the agreement

Re: promissory notes

The note would have to be signed by the debtor (person that owes the money). Of course, the language in the note would determine if the document is enforceable in Court.
