Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

small claims court statute of limitations

In 1996 I sued a contractor in small claims court and was awarded $1500. I never collected due to the contractor moving out of state. He never even showed up for court. Can I still collect if I can find him?

You may have already allowed your judgment to expire, assuming you have never taken any action to collect. It may also be too late to revive it, but a NY collections attorney should be able to either agree with me or help you rather easily. Good luck!
