Waiting too long to get a decision on a petition or an application

I have been waiting for a very long time to get an answer from the Citizenship and Immigration Services on an application I (or my relative) filed. What should I do?

Waiting too long to get a decision on a petition or an application

If you have been waiting an unreasonably long time to get a decision on your application, and you have already been interviewed by a CIS officer on your application, then you should consider filing a lawsuit in a federal district court to force the CIS to make a decision on your application. Such a lawsuit is called a mandamus. Often times, filing such a lawsuit forces the CIS to act on something that otherwise they would have just waited on for a long time had a lawsuit not been filed.
