Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Can an employer request info from your Dr. without consent?

I am curently on light duty on my job because I had knee surgery in June. I returned to work in August. My Dr. initially advised desk duty only. Then c couple of months later advised escort duty. (I ride in a truck w/ another technician)I submitted a Dr.'s note stating that I should be on escort duty only about 2 months ago. Just yesterday, without my knowledge, my forewoman faxed my Dr. and requested info about me and my light duty. Is my employer allowed to call my Dr. w/o my knowledge? Is my Dr. supposed to reply w/o my knowledge

Your doctor has a duty not to disclose anything concerning your treatment to anyone without your knowledge and consent.
