I am a holdover tenant

I had fallen on hard times but am doing well now but my landlord refused to accept the back rent took me to court and as of yesterday(may 31) i was suppose to be out. I am having a hard time finding an affordable place to live but know I will have something very soon for apartments are starting to come up but i cannot be out by today June 1 .How long does it take to be actually be served the 72hour notice in Nassau County? i called a lawyer in my town and he said the sheriff is about 2 weeks behind is that true? I'm friendly with the neighbors and dont want to be humilated trying to get out by June 15 will i be served before that? do they serve you at night for I work full time how do i get a little more time time? thanks

Are you sure you were a holdover? If you are able to pay the back rent for your place plus a small amount for attorney's fees, and honestly be able to stay current with future rent you should consider hiring a local but VERY experienced landlord/tenant lawyer to review your case immediately.

If not, then you should know that the Sheriff's office also serves notices according to locale, not necessarily which came first. Therefore, it may take as little as a few days or as long as two weeks.
