Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York

I was scheduled for an inquest as a pro se plaintiff in NYC. The defendant never answered after the summons was served by the Sheriff's office. On the inquest date an attorney for the defendant claiming he did not know anything of the case and only received the court notice the previous date. The court clerk puts the case back on the calendar despite the objection of the plaintiff. Can the plaintiff file a motion to object this and ask for the inquest to continue?
