Small claims court filing across state borders

Can you file suit against someone in small claims court across state borders? Such as if you lived in New York and wanted to file suit against someone in Washington State?

Sure, as long as the court has proper jursidiction over the person. In this case, you could sue in Washington State if the person is domiciled there, or New York, if the matter falls under New York's long arm statute.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can call my office to schedule an appointment for a consultation or in the alternative, I can be reached for on-phone low-cost legal consultation at 1-800-275-5336 x0233699.

Small claims ...the person must live in the jurisdictional area of the court that you are suing in.

Good Luck
