Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

breaking up and owning a home with my boyfriend

My boyfriend broke up with me, he packed his belongings. We own a home together, when he left he told me he didnt care if the home went into foreclosure. I waited for days for him to come back. When he didnt, I changed the locks on the house. I took all the savings account money to pay the mortgage monthly since I cannot afford it on my own. The money I took was from a joint account. Is what I did legal? Can I use the money for the mortgage until he deceides what he wants to do with the house? Do I go to a lawyer right away? Help...thank you

I would advise you to meet with an attorney ASAP, this situation may escalate into a huge battle between the two of you can turn into something rather ugly... If i were you i would ensure my ultimate protection by consulting with someone, and also simply make everything legal too.
