Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

I own a home that I am unable to afford on my own. I put an ad in the paper for a roommate. I found one and she has been living with me for 6 months. Nothing was ever signed, there were no documents or any legal binding contract ever drawn up. It was a "gentleman's agreement" about how much rent would be paid per month. As of today she has not paid rent since July 2010. I have asked her for the money but she still doesn't pay and says she is looking for a job. I want her to leave so I can find someone who can pay the rent. Can I throw her out? Can I pack her stuff, put it outside, and change the locks? What are my options? Thank you
