Re: illegal extension

How do you know there is no permit? I would first go to the village or town hall to verify that there is no permit.

If there is no permit, you have the right to file a complaint with the building department. Since it is a neighbor, I would let the building department do the dirty work of directing modification or removal of the extension.

It is my belief that under NY law there is no compensation for blocking view and air.
