Legal Question in Traffic Law in New York

Received an open container violation in New York in October 2007 and i sent in the $25 fee with the filled out form as i would not have been able to make it to court (i'm from a different state). I am applying to medical school pretty soon and wanted to know if this will show up on my criminal background check and whether i have to indicate if i have a criminal record of any kind. An NY attorney advised me this is a small matter and to send in the form to avoid a court date. Any advice is appreciated.

The only way to definitely know is to purchase a copy of your criminal record. Go here for that information: http://www.courts.state.ny.us/apps/chrs/
