Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in New York

Obtaining a copy of father's will

I would like to obtain a copy of my father's will. He died on August 9, 2002 in New York City. I was a beneficiary. I never received either a death certificate nor a copy of his will. Who do I contact to obtain these?

Thank you,

Chris

If someone has submitted the will for probate, you should check the court in the county where your father lived. You can request copies of death certificates from the NYC Office of Vital Records.

If you need additional assistance with this case, contact my office at [email protected].

Re: Obtaining a copy of father's will

Contact the Surrogate's office in the County where you father was residing when he died. You should have received a Citation informing you of the probate and the important players (Executor and attorney for the estate). You can get a copy of the Will for a nominal fee and all of the information necessary to contact people involved with the estate.
