That procedure is not a legal will. You also need 2 witnesses to sign.

I strongly urge to have an attorney write your will. If you are set against using an attorney, at least use an online service that offers attorney advice. For example www.elawyerny.com

You can, but it will not be a valid will. Please do not do this yourself. I've seen many, many people try to do their own wills only to have disastrous results. You can have a will prepared inexpensively through a lawyer's office. Call around. A will is one document you don't want to mess up. You won't be able to fix it once you're gone.

You've been given good advice by my colleagues. The advantage, of course, to doing your own will is that you save a small amount of money. The disadvantage is that there may be an array of complications that will cost your loved ones tens of thousands of dollars (or perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars) to fix, and your plan as to what happens to your assets after your death may go out the window.

It always amazes me that people who would seek a "professional" to mow their lawns, cut their hair, or wash their cars think nothing of trying to do their own legal work.

Good luck to you.
