civil summons

I got a civil summons and i think it is from credit card dept. It has bee 6 years and i owe a lot of cards and abut 16000.00 for all of them. Would it be best to file backrupcy i did over 10 yrs ago. I have chron's disease and had a lot of problem with bills. I had to get a newer car and that has put me in a hole aso. Please give me some advise!

You should consult local counsel, with a specialty in bankruptcy.

Bankruptcy law was dramatically revised in the last few years, so although there is an automatic stay, it may not help you. Further, it may not even be enough to get you out of the debt. Still, sometimes all people need is breathing room and credit counseling (PLEASE be careful with this!), it will just buy you time to pay it off.

You will definitely want an attorney to research whether your personal degree of Crohn's disease has ever been enough in bankruptcy to get a discharge. Unless it is terribly severe, I doubt it, so definitely consult local counsel.

Finally, bankruptcy ain't cheap either.
