Legal Question in Family Law in North Carolina

retainer paid, without service

I paid $2500 as a retainer to my attorney in May. I have called and called the attorney and he returned my call once. I have called him atleast 50 times. He has done nothing about the case of child support and overpayment by me of child suppport and other fees. I have treathened to go to another proactice but he says he has worked too much for me to get the retainer back. What can I do to get my case heard in court or get this attorney off and my retainer refunded? I need this money a lot and I keep leaving messages to this effect.
