Legal Question in Real Estate Law in North Carolina

My husband and i bought a car from a young man who said that it had a lost title. We had insurance put on it and decided to go fill out the paper work to claim a lost title. Come to find out the boy moved to florida and theres a lean on the title. We cant get in touch with him and the dmv wont give us any info on who the lean is through or how much it is. Is there anything i can do to get around it with out paying the lean?

Unfortunately it sounds as if this young man executed a "con job." You need to find him as that will be your best bet for relief. With a lien on the vehicle, there will always be a risk of the vehicle being repossessed. Plus the DMV and the creditor will not deal with you as you are not the "legal" owner or the accoutn holder. Hopefully, you will be able to track him down.

Never purchase a loss title vehicle, until you make the owner go and apply for a duplicate title.
