Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

Suspended Drvers License

In December '06 I was ticketed in Tenn for speeding (86 in a 65). The ticket was written for speeding not reckless driving and I paid the fine. I live in NC and just recieved a letter from the DMV stating my license has been suspended for 8 months due to that ticket in '06.

I asked the DMV why after all this time would they suspend my license on a matter that took place in another state and was paid and they said that was NC policy and they just now recieved the info from the state of Tenn. Is this not ''double Jeopardy'' ? This is the only infraction I have on my driving record, I have recently been laid off due to my company closing and need to drive to find a job. I don't understand how NC can do this. What do I need to do? I requested a hearing but that will not be until Mar 12,

Re: Suspended Drvers License

You need to take care of it in Tennessee - find an attorney to go back and reopen it and plead you down to a lesser offense. In NC you lose your license for driving that much over the speed limit - whatever happens in another state impacts you as if it happened here once they get the information.
