Can I take my child to a counselor?
I am the non-custodial parent (father) of an 11 yr. old girl. Within the last 6 mos., my ex's attempts at alienation have born fruit, and I believe that my daughter desperately needs counseling, as well as her mother. I have already gone myself, but I can't seem to get the mother to cooperate. What are my rights in seeking psy. help for my daughter? Can I take her to a family counselor on my own accord, or must I have the mother's consent beforehand? Thanks in advance.

Should you feel that the mother of your child is damaging your child psychologically, then you should file a motion with the Court asking to change custody or visitation. However, you may want to take your child to a counselor beforehand on one of your scheduled visits. The problem will arise when "mommy" askes what her child did on the visit and the child makes reference to the counselor.
The bottom line is that in order to bolster your case you will need to show that your child is being harmed and the way to do that is with the counselor.
