Assault- Fistfight

A little less than a year ago, I got into a fistfight with a kid I knew. We were both 17, but I heard that I could sue his parents. We both hit each other one time or another, but he clearly started the fight (outright punched me), and the only reason I fought back was to get him away from me. I don't want to spend a lot on a lawyer so I was going to file small claims, I am 18 now so I was going to do it myself. I was just wondering if it is really worth it, or if I will benefit at all form it. There was a police report, he was charged with assault, and I have picturesof myself with only bruises and cuts- besides some torn clothing. I was just wondering if it is worth my while. Thank You.

Well, what are you suing for? What are your damages? Did you have medical bills as a result of the fight? What exactly are you trying to accomplish with the suit?
