Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Ohio

Protection order

I am a male 54 yrs, My best friend of 40+ yrs (female)

Has a history of drinking problems, and all the related things that go with it.(mood swings, paranoia, hearing voices, seeing things)She was admitted last march to the hospital while trying to quit cold turkey and went into ''DT'' after being found roaming around seeing witches, and so forth. The problem is a deadbeat ex-husband has moved back in and suppies her with booze and takes her out (she pays) to bars eat every day. She is well to do and he lives off her money. she divorced him years ago when she caught him trying to file a false tax return (joint) when everything was in her name.He has since driven a wedge between us so he can have complete control over her life. Because of her drinking she is now isolated from the rest of her family and old friends who now want nothing to do with her.

She recently cut off all contact with me despite my trying to get in contact via computer/phone.Outof the blue I've been served papers for stalking and have a hearing in 2 weeks. I can't afford legal rep. and don't know what to do. Last contact was Nov.28 we were to watch Monday night football and she called cops when I showed up.

Nonhostile email from her Dec.12 papers filed Dec.19.HELP!

Re: Protection order

If all she wants is a protection order, you can consent to that, but that has ramifications on gun ownership for you. If you are charged with menacing, they have to show that you threatened harm. If you are charged with phone harassment, they have to show that you called or made contact after having been asked not to stop. Either way, when you get to court, you have the right to call her as a witness and that may help explain why you did what you did, and may also be an excuse for your calling (necessity). If you can't afford a lawyer, you're in trouble. Can you afford a doctor if you break your leg ???
