If you do not respond you will lose by default. The creditor can sell your ppersonal property and possible attach your bank account. Get an attorney. If you can not afford an attorney go to legal aid. At the very minimum contact the opposing counsel and work out a payment plan. You might have some defenses such as if the debt is more than four years old, you have a defense of statute of limitations. It is a waivable defense. Do not ignore the legal action. It is the worse thing you can do.
