Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

Landlord giving out personal information

My boyfriend and I are being asked to leave my apartment. We got a letter stating they wish to terminate my lease on October 1, 2007. There was no reasoning why they were terminating our lease.

Yesterday I was talking to my neighbor who lives upstairs and he said, ''oh I hear your leaving'' and I said yes. He asked if we had gotten a reason, and I told him no. He said he was talking to the rental manager and asked her why we were leaving and she told him because of damage to the apartment and also recent police activity. Ok, first off, does she have a right to divulge that personal information, specially since she's avoiding my calls and not giving me the reason personally?

Secondly, yes there are damages to the apartment because of an ex boyfriend who wasn't on the lease. I told her about these last month and told her I was willing to pay for these damages and I would furnish her with a list. I started the list a few days before I got my letter to vacate. As far as the police, the neighbors didn't call them, we did, so it's not like we were disturbing anyone and they called. Do the police give her that information or do you think that a neighbor said something about seeing them there? Can she give out my personal info?

Re: Landlord giving out personal information

What is your complaint specifically...that your landlord or a neighbor may have gossiped about you? Probably they both did. Probably everyone in the building is gossiping about what happened. Are you asking if you can stop that? The answer is no. And your calling the police and your violent boyfriend--while "sensitive" information to you, is not "personal". It's actually public record, if the police were called and a report was made out. As for the damage, you violated the lease, and now you are being given a notice to vacate. If you need it, an attorney can probably get you a few months to move out, but you are definitely going to be made to move out.
