Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

Is executors notice required in legal periodial in PA

I am 'trying' to handle my uncle's estateon my own. Do I need to publish the estate notice in a 'legal periodical'? I know I need to publish in a paper, the wording on the form say ''...in one newpaper..., and in the legal periodical, if any, designated by rule of court for the publication of legal notices...'

The way I read this, it is only required if I was ordered too. Is this correct. thanks for any help.

The "designated by rule of court" does not mean only if you are ordered to publish. It refers to the official legal periodical in your county or city, as established by the court in that county.

The reason for publishing estates is to start a 1-year time period running against creditors of the deceased (people or companies to whom the deceased owed money. If the creditors do not present their claims within that time and you do not already know about them, they may not present claims against the estate later.

This is to protect you, because if you distribute any estate assets without first paying creditors and taxing authorities, you may be personally liable to pay those if you have not taken steps to find out all of the debts of the deceased.
