Legal Question in Technology Law in Rhode Island

Who owns web site for non profit

we are a nonprofit girls softball league, where all work is done by volunteers.

If one of our volunteers designed our web site for us. who owns it?

We paid him 6mos at a time for hosting fee of the web site. And paid in full for the domaine name.

He refuses to give us the pass word or for us to have any access to the site to add and remove things on it. He has put things on the site that we did not want on the site, we wanted this to be a place where the girls could go and look a pictures of them playing and to get scores and other infomation about the season. when we asked him to take down a link to his own site he told us NO. this was the 3rd time we have had to tell him to take things off the site and he has argued with us about doing it.

our girls range in age from 5 to 16.

This last time the President of the league asked him to take this off the site on Sat. When it was not down by Sunday she spent 3 hours going back and forth with him about doing this. She finally asked him for the password and he told her he would never give it to us. That it was his design his everything.

He shut the site down last week. on the link to our name he put up something that we told him he could not put on it

Re: Who owns web site for non profit

He owns the design of the site and probably the domain and registrar account but the person who took the photographs on the site owns rights to those. You'll need to start all over again with a new domain name, etc. I can assist you with this matter and might be able to pressure the webmaster into giving you the domain. Feel free to contact me on this.
