Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

separated for 3 years;after 2 years father took children and won't return them

Hi, I am separated from my husband for going on 3 years. In that time he has had minimal interaction with our two children ages 10 & 7. He checked them out of school which I enrolled them and refuses to bring them back. This has been ongoing for almost a year;during which time I have not been allowed to see my children. We finally agreed on visitation; He is an abusive person, who has choked me on several (undocumented) occassions. I want my children back and have been trying to get them back for the entire time that he has had them. When I checked my kids out of school he called the police and had a tresspassing order filed on me, he also has lied to our attorney's I am at my wits end and do not feel that my attorney is acting in my best interest. I don't have money to pay for an attorney and this one was provided through an agency for abused women. What should I do?

Since you are already represented by counsel, I am limited in what I can tell you at this point. If you are not satisfied with your attorney, you should attempt to resolve any issues with him/her, and if you cannot do so, then you should seek other counsel.

The issues that you mention (child custody, domestic violence, etc.) are extremely important and could have long lasting effects on you and your children. You should be represented by the best attorney that you can afford to hire.

If you need more information, you can visit my family law blog (www.SCFamilyLaw.com) or our website (www.StevensFirm.com). I wish you the best of luck.
