Legal Question in Immigration Law in South Carolina

K-1 visa possibilites for reformed sex offender

I was convicted of a minor sex offense over 12 years ago. I recieved only probation and completed it. I have not had any problems since. I met a great lady online from the Philippines and vistied her twice. We are near the same age...30's...and we love each other. Do I even have a chance that they will approve my K-1 visa. It has been 10 months since I applied and I have heard nothing.

Re: K-1 visa possibilites for reformed sex offender

You're a citizen, so you have no danger of being placed in deportation proceedings. If it was really a minor offense, and no further incidents, it will depend on the discretion of the Department of State, and USCIS. The government would only be concerned as to whether the fiance could be going to meet some dangerous person. It doesn't sound like you fit that bill, but it depends. Get an immigration attorney to find out what's going on with the fiance visa, okay? Good luck!
