I was hurt in work i am go to cort today to keep my workman comp check my lawer just told he ask the court to talk 20% out of my workman comp ch went i was unstood that the 20% would not come out and til we settle can he do this and how long please help asp

A 20% contingency fee is standard in workers compensation cases. It sounds as if you are fighting a termination petition. The 20% keeps coming out as long as you stay on workers' compensation.

I have handled workers' compensation cases for almost 15 years. You signed a fee agreement agreeing to have the 20% deducted as a counsel fee in the event your benefits continued after the first hearing. This is the only way a lawyer would ever represent you. They are not going to work for free for 1 to 2 years. Even at that, the amount of time being spent on your case by your lawyer far exceeds the 20% per week he is receiving. Most lawyers charge $150.00 to $200.00 per hour so the 20% (which is at most $145.00 per week) is a bargain--you should be happy.
