I was recently accused of stealing from a job and fired. It has been two weeks since then, they said I'd be charged with a theft felony charge, but I have not been arrested yet, will I be?

Re: will i be charged?

You may very well be arrested in the future if a warrant has been sworn out against you. It would be best to discuss this matter over the telephone to get the facts needed.

In general, in Tennessee theft of property or services of a value of $500 or less is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 11 months and 29 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.00. If the valuation of the theft is over $500, then the charge is a felony with a punishment of up to 30 years depending on the amount of the crime and your record.

If you have made a statement to your employer or others, that statement may be used against you in court. Anything you say to law-enforcement may likewise be used against you. You will need a lawyer if the authorities try to question you or if you are charged.
