The choice of counsel to represent you is always your choice. Whether it is the best decision or not depends on what stage the case is in on its way to resolution.

Yes. You are the boss and have the right to hire and fire any lawyer. Communication is always the key and often it is in the client's best interest to discuss the problems with the lawyer first.
