who is at respnsible when test driving a car?

Am I or my insurance company responsible for the damage or is the dealership?

I test drove a car at a new car dealership. I asked the salesperson if he wanted to park the car but he told me to do it. I backed in to the space but hit a light pole and damaged the bumper. They want $400.00

you may be..but tell them to contact your insurance who will NOT pay immediately and may deny...let the insurance settle..it does not affect your premium unless you have more than one a year..I believe
