Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Possible Bribery

My friends ex-boyfriend was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon when he attacked her. He has now offered her a large sum of money (through e-mail) to not testify against him. Some of her friends think that she should take the money and run instead of going through the whole legal process. Others say that the money is not guaranteed and that it is a trick. She forwarded the e-mail to the D.A., and has not heard a response. Is this bribery?

Re: Possible Bribery

Offering a witness money not to testify is highly illegal. Yes, it is bribery and obstruction of justice. Forwarding the email to the DA was the correct thing to do. The DA will probably file another criminal charge against him.
