File a petition to modify the parent-child relationship. You will need to allege and prove one of the following: (1) That there has been a material and substantial change in circumstances involving you, the other parent, or the child; (2) That the child is 12 or older and wants to come live with you; or (3) That the other parent voluntarily gave you possession of the child for 6 months or more. Once you prove one of those, you then have to convince the judge that your requested modification is in the child's best interest.
