Legal Question in Medical Leave in Texas

FMLA to care for my parent

My mother was recently diagnosed with heart blockage for which she is on medication. She has previously had multiple major abdominal surgeries and is not in good health overall. I fear she may not have much time left and would like to take time off to care for her. Thinking of filing for FMLA - Is this an option for me? What paperwork would I need to support my claim?

If you are FMLA eligible, you will need a statement from your mother's doctor that she is unable to care for herself and that you are needed to provide the care. Typically, most employers use a Department of Labor form for certifying the need for leave. You should be able to get a copy of the paperwork you need from your company's HR office.
