Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Texas

Texas name change fingerprinting

I want to change my name in Texas. I went to get fingerprinted at the police station, but was told I needed a fingerprinting card. The county clerk's office said they do not provide the cards. After looking online, I am unsure what I need to do. Do I need to have my fingerprints filed with DPS and the FBI or just submit my prints to the court?

Re: Texas name change fingerprinting

Step one: file an application for a name change in district court.

Step two: get fingerprinted at a police station

Step three: submit to DPS / FBI

Step four: schedule hearing and show up for court

Step five: submit an order to the judge.

You can have an attorney do this for you for a few hundred dollars.
