Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Texas

A design company contacted me and the builder involved on a house plan my company did for a good friend of mine. My company is a PLLC. They say we stole their design. Although their house photos were used for inspiration (especially the outside of the house), my design was different in many ways and a bigger house. They say they want half of all the profit made on the project by me and the builder to keep it out of court. I took a loss on the project because I didn't ask for much money from my friend. The builder was my friend's son, so he made very little on the project as well. I don't think they will be satisfied with those numbers. I feel like we are the victim of a copyright troll. What should I do? Are my personal assets in danger if we go to court?

You should contact a local IP lawyer and have a proper evaluation done. While architectural designs can be protected, it will require more than just a building that looks similar.
