Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

I am a salaried employee that works 45-55 hours per week. I was just asked by my employer if I would like to make commission by working on "my own time" on a project. I would like to know if my employer would or should ever have to pay me overtime for working "after hours" at my home.

Probably not. If you are salaried and exempt then your employer is not required to pay you overtime because you are paid for performing work not the length of time it takes to perform it. When you start performing a second job for the same employer it can create complex issues to determine how you must/can be paid for the second job.
