Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

dropping my lawyer

I was in a car accident and wanted to go to a chiropractor...when i got to the office he suggested to me that i get a lawyer so he knows that the medical bills incurred by me would be paid - made it like if i didnt get one that he would see me - so he called the lawyer and i gave him my information but now i feel like its a bad idea because i dont need to doctor anymore and i would like to settle the case...what would it take for me to release the retainer on this lawyer.

call the lawyer...he may be able to obtain enough to pay for doctor bills, his fee and you...but you would normally not receive more than meds without a lawyer...but "wanting to settle" and settling are two different things...most carriers offer no more than medical bills aon minor accidents..

You apparently have entered into a contact with your attorney and your entry makes it appear that you are asking for advice on how to breach your contract. You have a legal duty to honor your contract unless your attorney has given you cause to terminate his services. What constitutes "cause" is a complex matter and you should meet with an attorney to get more advice if you intend to fire your attorney. The attorney client relationship is a special relationship. You can seek to sever that relationship, but doing so will not eliminate your attorney's contract claim.
