Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

property tax

My house was to be forclose on in jan of 2006 for back property taxes my mother was exempt on paying. I took out a loan against the property and paid the back taxes of over 45,000.00 to the sheriff office and mailed another check for 3300.00 owed for 2005 to the tax assesor office. After that we thought the taxes were paid in full. The attorney office representing the back taxes due starting dunning us, stating our 2004 taxes hadnt been paid and we had to pay penalties and interest to a total of 4400.00 then they tack on another 1600.00 to our morgage company. We were suppose to get a homestead and they say we have one so why did we pay as much. I have paper work from the sheriff office showing if we pay this 45,000.00 plus it included 2004 and prior taxes. I am needing to find out how to resolve this matter. I have try talking to the tax assessor but to no resolution.

Re: property tax

This doesn't sound right. The only way to tell what was going on is to look at the paperwork. If you would like to fax it to my office, I will give you a free phone consultation.

Get an attorney, this is too big to do on your own.
